Hygge – “the art of coziness”: tips for making your wardrobe and home cozy this season

Have you heard of “Hygge”?  I have heard this word a few times  A quick internet search revealed that hygge is “a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).  It is pronounced “hoo-ga”.  When I read this I knew that this word defined me – or how I aspire to be especially with fall approaching.  I love being cozy, snuggling up with a favorite blanket on the couch surrounded by soft pillows, my new shag rug under my feet in the family room, some fluffy fur slippers on my feet, and the sweet scent of apple spice from a nearby burning candle.  It’s the simple things in life that give you comfort, a sense of home and well-being.  You have probably experienced hygge too.

Now that the weather is starting to cool and fall is around the corner, I will be ready to hygge with leggings, leather boots, scarves and wraps, and comfy sweaters.  I have a couple of trips planned to spend time in the great outdoors and just relax (stay tuned for my upcoming review of “The Getaway House Pittsburgh” – which I’m so excited about!).  After the craziness and fun of summer, fall is the time to relax and take some time out.  What are your fall plans?  How do you “Hygge”?   I’d love to hear what makes you feel cozy!  Check out some of my hygge picks below:
