How to transition your summer dresses to fall and beyond

Cold weather hasn’t exactly hit us yet (In Pittsburgh we’re still experiencing a high in the 90’s) but that doesn’t mean it will never come – Winter is coming! 🙂  I am not quite ready to give up my light and breezy summer dresses for the bulky scarves and riding boots of fall.  I wanted to share some ways that you can easily transition your favorite summer dresses for both work and play without having to invest in a new wardrobe for fall.  Here are some of my favorite looks – hope you enjoy!

This utility sleeveless dress is one of my favorites for work-wear during the summer.  It is the prettiest neutral green and I love the tie and zip detailing.  For cooler temps, simply add a long cardigan.   Wear with riding boots for a more casual look.

Same dress here – just a more casual look.  Throw on a jean jacket and some cute booties for a fun weekend look.

This slip dress from Express is one of my all time favorites.  Its silky and light and can be worn for so many occasions.  While not work appropriate by itself, just throw on a pretty blouse underneath and your look is ready for work or a fancy dinner out.  The key to this look is to have an equally silky top underneath that doesn’t add bulkiness or a fitted bodysuit or top.

Same slip dress here but paired with an Express turtleneck sweater and it looks like a two piece outfit.  The mules are perfect for this casual dressy look.

This JCrew dress is one of my favorite pieces from the summer.  It is a small floral print that can be worn in any season!  Florals are also continuing to be a big trend for fall.  I love the casual femininity of this look – the dress paired with a sweater for cooler temps, and a cute pair of block heeled cut-out sandals.  I actually just peeked on the J.Crew website to link this dress and saw their new Point-Sur collection which they are apparently stealing my look 😉  check it out!

I hope these looks have given you some inspiration on how to transition your own wardrobe!  After these 90 degree days and all the pools being closed, I’m ready for fall!  Bring on the Pumpkin Spice everything!

xo,

J
